IAESTE experiences

Danilo Fernando Sánchez
Home country: Colombia
Destination country:Vietnam

My practice through IAESTE, is in the city Thai Nguyên in Vietnam, Thai Nguyên International School, I am going to stay until May. Arriving in a country where everything is completely different from Colombia, the adapt process is a bit difficult, but I had the fortune of meeting very friendly people who have supported me during my stay, the language is the most tough thing from being here, surprisingly just few people speaks English well, which makes it more complicated the communication, although I am taking advantage from this opportunity to learn the Vietnamese language. However, I hope that in the following months can to adapt better to the food and customs, despite being different, I find them completely extraordinary.

I am grateful to have this experience; such situations and opportunities are the best into a student’s life and generally a person, coming to learn from the wisdom of people who are absolutely different from you is wonderful, you learn how to be tolerant and respectful since your and their customs are completely different, absolutely this trip has made me grow as personally and professionally, this is a huge step for my future.

IAESTE Colombia participated at the Annual Conference

The sixty-ninth Annual Conference organized by IAESTE is an event each year in which the member countries of the organization get together with the main objective to exchange offers to students from around the world to have the opportunity to have a professional paid internship; This year the event was in Prague, Czech Republic, from January 22 to 28.

It was attended by about 260 delegates from 80 countries, where in addition to the exchange of placements, a couple meetings were held, where IAESTE has been motivating the management of the previous year, and in turn, new goals were outlined for 2016.

IAESTE Colombia's participation this year had a distinctive feature. After Brazil, Colombia was the second country in Latin America to bring a greater number of offers to exchange during the event. Containing a total of 80 deals, this means that the same number of students will have the opportunity to make their internships paid abroad and Colombia is also expected to receive foreign students in Colombian universities that are part of IAESTE.

Strategy 2020 posters shared at the Annual Conference

Those of you lucky enough to be at the AC in Prague will have seen the many Strategy 2020 posters displayed outside of the general conference room. The purpose of the posters was to share with each our engagement with the Strategy 2020, to let each other know what's happening in our countries and to exchange ideas about how to implement it.

As the room at the conference in which the posters were displayed was quite cramped and not ideal, we do not want the wonderful efforts of the countries to go unnoticed, so we have decided to share with you all the posters in each newsletter.

To start us off you can find here the posters from A.s.b.l. and Alumni. Each newsletter going forward we will share two country posters. And remember, once you've seen them, feel free to get in touch with the poster's creators in order to start discussions on their content!

How we did this year?

2015 Exchange results

3.3583 young people from around the world have had their lives changed by IAESTE in 2015. It’s important to remember that behind every statistic in this report is a young person, someone who was given the opportunity to live and work in and country and culture very different to their own. Those experiences help make the world a better place by breaking down barriers, by helping young people to understand the things that we have in common and to celebrate our differences.

We’re working on the Activity Report 2015 publication and it will be ready for Annual Conference, but here you already can check all statistics.
